SPAM! SPAM! SPAM!
We’ve gotten many questions regarding the new Spam Filter so we’ll try to answer some of them on this page just in case you were wondering but hadn’t gotten around to calling.

What is Spam?
Spam is any unsolicited e-mail usually containing content that wants to sell you something.

Is there any cost for the Spam Filter?
No, this is a free service for the customers of ValYou.Net.

Do I have to sign up?
The Spam filter is an optional service.  If you don’t receive a large amount of Spam, you may not want to sign up for the filter.  You can always sign up later if your volume of Spam increases enough to be annoying.

What number should I start on?
When you sign up for the Spam Filter, you can choose your level of aggressiveness.  The higher the number, the more Spam that will be caught, but also the greater potential for wanted e-mails to get sorted out.  Adjust your level as often as you want to reach a point that is comfortable for you.

How are Spam messages detected?
The Spam filtering software on the mail server will scan messages for keywords in the sender, subject and body of the message to determine if it may be Spam.  These keywords are modified often to detect new Spam messages.

Where does the Spam go?
When you choose your Filter settings, the most common selection is to move the detected Spam to the Spam folder.  This folder will automatically be created the first time it detects Spam.
If you feel comfortable that you are not missing any important e-mails, you may wish to change this from moving it to the Spam folder to deleting it right away.

How can I view the Spam?
We recommend you check your Spam folder frequently at first to check for important mail that might have been moved by accident.  To do this, go to the New Webmail Icon from our home page (or http://smtp.btinet.net ) and log in with your e-mail address and password.  It will automatically go to your Inbox first.  Change to the Spam folder by clicking in the Select Folder: drop down menu and choosing spam on the list.  View the messages.  Choose the messages you want to keep by checking the box and then choose Move to Folder Inbox at the top of the page.  Then remove the Spam by going to the bottom of the screen, click Select All and then click the Trashcan to delete the messages.  Repeat for each page of Spam to you want to remove.
